In the Nikkei COVID-19 Recovery Index, Bangladesh is rated 5th out of 121 nations. However, according to the newest rankings published on May 5, 2022, Bangladesh scored first among South Asian countries with an 80-point score, followed by Nepal in sixth place with a 79-point score. Earlier in March, Bangladesh was ranked 13th in the world.

Pakistan was placed 23rd in the area, while Sri Lanka, now experiencing an economic crisis, was ranked 31st. India and Haiti tied for 70th place in the index with 62.5 points each, while Qatar and the United Arab Emirates took first place with 87 points. Taiwan’s rating has plummeted in the newest edition of Nikkei’s COVID-19 Recovery Index as the island switches from a tight zero-virus strategy to living with respiratory sickness, even as infections soar.

In the latest rating, the country dropped from fourth to 94th, tied with China, which dropped 62 places from last month as the country faces its biggest outbreak since the virus was first discovered in Wuhan more than two years ago. However, the number of COVID-19 infections in Bangladesh has declined over the past few months. The virus claimed no lives in the country in the 16 days leading up to May 6, 2022.

According to health officials, 75.46 percent of the population has had at least one vaccine injection, with 68.19 percent fully immunized. In addition, the index evaluates countries and regions on infection control, vaccine rollouts, and socioeconomic mobility after each month.

The higher the score, the closer a location is to recovery, as seen by reduced infection and death rates, better immunization coverage, and fewer limitations on movement. Nikkei, Japan’s major business media group, which comprises Nikkei, Nikkei Asia, and the Financial Times of London, maintains the index.
